Road to Holistic Health | 3 Steps to a Diet Free Life

stop dieting start living

When I first started to grocery shop at a health food store I remember feeling like a fish out of water! There were so many products that I hadn’t seen before and didn’t even know how to pronounce. Such as Quinoa (Keen-wah)!

I didn’t let that stop me from embarking on a path to better health and wellness. I still remember how difficult it was at first. It always seems easier to stick with what we know and where to find the products that we have been buying for years. Stepping outside of our comfort zone may not be easy but it could well be the best decision you ever make. Without good health what do we really have?

I have good news for you

Are you feeling overwhelmed at the very thought of introducing new foods into your diet and making changes that you are unsure about? Don’t worry I have good news for you! Home cooking and planning meals are all within your reach.

Breaking away from poor eating habits and diets

What do you do when you decide to tackle a decorating project in your home? You probably make a list of what needs to be done in a sequential way such as, emptying out the room or covering up the items from dust and paint splashes, rubbing down the trim, corking, painting, cleaning the rugs and cleaning the window treatments. The point is that you have a plan. You don’t clean the rug and window treatments until after the work is complete.

Well, taking care of your health “project” is no different … all you need is a place to start.

  1. Declare that you want to get this “health project” started. Until you are in the right mindset to embrace anything in life it is not going to happen. There will always be something to challenge you but making a solid decision to stay the course will get you to where you want to go. You will like it so much once you get there that you will never want to “leave!”
  2. Clean away the “clutter” so that you can approach it in an orderly fashion. Decide what clutter means to you. It could be messy counter tops that prevent you from having the space to create your meals. Perhaps you have cupboards packed with junk food, or you don’t make time to do the prep work.
  3. Decide if you need help. Be honest with yourself about this. This isn’t a sign of weakness. You invest your money in a plan so that it will grow. Invest in your health so that it will grow! It could be in the form of an accountability buddy, tracking your own progress on a consistent basis or working with a health coach. You decide.

Wherever we are going in life we need to plan the route. These days we rely on GPS to get us to a physical destination. We plug in the address and off we go. We wouldn’t just jump in the car and go on our merry old way to a place that is unfamiliar. We have a plan. Our health, diet and lifestyle goals are no different. We need a plan to take us there.
